This standard establishes terminologies and a framework for percutaneous and non-fluoroscopic (PAN) technology that is conducted via ultrasound in percutaneous cardiovascular interventional therapy.
Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to provide unified terminology and a framework for PAN technology. PAN technology addresses the issue that interventional therapies conducted by fluoroscopy and thoracotomy under cardiopulmonary bypass could cause iatrogenic injury, including radiation damage or large trauma. PAN technology is conducted via echography, which reduces the degree of external dependence on a catheter laboratory, operating room facilities, and a large medical team. The standardization of PAN technology could not only reduce iatrogenic injury but could also help patients in less developed countries and regions to receive prompt medical treatment, therefore promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UNS DG) for SDG3: “Good Health and Well-Being” and SDG 10: “Reduce inequality within and among countries.
Abstract
New IEEE Standard - Active.Terminologies and a framework for percutaneous and non-fluoroscopic (PAN) technology, which is conducted by ultrasound in a percutaneous cardiovascular interventional therapy, are established in this standard. Communication and cooperation with various stakeholders under a unified terminology and framework to overcome differences and to make technology more reliable, efficient, and safer, is promoted by this standard. The standardization of PAN technology will help scale up solution, satisfy people’s needs and promote healthcare services sustainable.
